16th – 29th OCTOBER ON THE GERMAN ISLAND OF JUIST
Application Deadline: 20.08.2017
The Transcultural Art Lab 2017 is a continuation of the very successful TAL 2016 which was entitled “Intercultural Competence through Hands on Experience”. Funded by the German Federal Foreign Office and the Ministry of social Affairs – Lower Saxony, as well as by the European Union’s education program Erasmus +, TAL 2017 is a creative research Lab for young creators from the Caucasus and Germany.
50 creative people, involved in culture and arts, aged between 18 and 27, are invited from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Germany as well as from the regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia to the German Island of Juist. The project takes place from 16th to 29th October 2017, in English. The results of the workshops will be shown during a public exhibition on the island at the conclusion of the ART LAB. The artworks will also be curated to form a traveling Art Show that will embark on a journey to Baku, Berlin, Tbilisi and Yerevan.
The TAL is organized by a group of international artists and is based in the Youth Education Center Th. Wuppermann e.V. Juist (Germany). The Caucasian partner organizations are: SKLAD (Abkhazia), Youth Events Holding Center (Armenia), “Common Sense” Youth Organization (Azerbaijan), Frontline Club/ GIPA (Georgia), Civil Forum for Peace (South Ossetia).
Under the broad theme of “Design your Utopia”, six artistic workshops will explore tensions between collective responsibilities and individual visions of the future in national and international contexts. The collaborative artwork provides a starting point for dialogue and an open space for divergent thinking. Each workshop is facilitated by a professional artist.
The workshops are as follows:
– Installation Art
– Music
– Performance Art
– Editorial Design
– Video Art
– Photography

The TRANSCULTURAL ART LAB takes place on a tiny German island in the North Sea, called Juist. The area is part of a National Park, and is very much exposed to the natural forces of the tides and the weather. There are no cars allowed except for the ambulance and the fire brigade! Therefore, it’s an ideal place to retreat from the loud noises of the cities, to rethink commonplaces and to start on something new, living in a multinational community. The course language is English. You will share a room with two or three people. All food is provided; vegetarian, halal and other diets are available upon request, just let us know.
Participation Fees Location * In the case of hardship / if the amount of €150 exceeds your financial capacities, please let us know and we will try to find extra funding to facilitate your participation nonetheless. Talk to us!
