The 2021 Azerbaijan Grand Prix started on June 4 with Formula 2 practice session. In the first minutes, Marino Sato’s car crashed into the wall and the front right wheel damaged. Then Lirim Zendeli’s car got off the track and got stuck on the 16th turn. Towards the end of the session, Roy Nissany crashed and seriously damaged his car, but left the car safely. The time left for the Qualifying session was very short, thus he couldn’t attend the session before the could be repaired. Liam Lawson and his teammate Jüri Vips took the first two places in the Qualifying session.

Although there were no serious accidents during the Formula 1 Practice session, it got memorable for multiple incidents running off the track during the session. Yuki Tsunoda and Pierre Gasly from the “AlphaTauri” team, as well as Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas from Mercedes, ran off the track during the session. Aston Martin driver Sebastian Vettel’s card had also the same fate during the practice session.
